Questions we get asked
A lot of people aren’t sure what an interior design studio does, or when to call one. Here are straight answers.
-
ŌME is an interior design studio in Kelowna. We design the inside of homes and buildings: layouts, kitchens, bathrooms, millwork, lighting, finishes and fixtures. We draw and specify it so builders and trades can price it and build it. Then we can furnish it too: we source the furniture, install it and stage the home so it's ready to live in. Our work covers custom homes, showhomes, multifamily buildings and commercial spaces.
-
No. Decorating is mostly furniture, colour and accessories in a room that already exists. Interior design starts earlier. We plan the rooms, the cabinetry, the lighting and the materials while the house is still on paper, and we produce drawings and specifications the build depends on. At ŌME we do both: we design the house, then we furnish it.

ŌME is led by its two principals, Francisco (Paco) Carreón and Maria Carreón, with more than 40 years of combined experience. Francisco trained as an architect. Maria is an interior designer who has led residential, multifamily and institutional work since 2003. She is also a LEED AP ID+C. LEED is the most widely used green building rating system, and the credential means she's trained in healthier, more energy- and resource-efficient interiors. For clients, that means smarter choices on materials, lighting and air quality, which helps on projects with sustainability goals or certification targets. Before co-founding ŌME, she ran her own studio and delivered more than 100 projects.

Three, and we treat them as equals. Residential interior design: custom homes and showhomes, from early planning through construction. Multifamily and commercial interior design: rental, condo, affordable housing, independent living and commercial spaces, with construction-ready packages for developers, builders and housing partners. Furniture procurement and installation: we source furniture, lighting, art and accessories, then install and stage so the home is ready on move-in day.
-
Yes. We've designed interiors for rental buildings, affordable housing and independent living for seniors, as well as custom homes and showhomes. Multifamily work leans on durability, consistency across many units, and documentation a contractor can build from. Our residential work benefits from that same discipline.
-
Yes. Our team has designed commercial spaces before, including the Kēlo Cannabis dispensary in Kelowna, Lakesider Brewing in West Kelowna and a daycare in Kamloops (completed under MATERIA Interior Design). We bring the same accurate, construction-ready approach to commercial work, so the space works for staff and clients from day one.
-
Yes. That's a core service, not an add-on. We work with top brands, trusted suppliers and local specialists. We help you choose pieces that fit your rooms and last, then we handle the ordering, tracking, delivery and installation.
-
We source furniture together with our clients. You're part of the choices, and we bring in our preferred vendors and installers to carry it through.
-
Yes. We can stage a home so that when you arrive, the beds are made, the kitchen has its basics, the TV and internet are set up, lamps and rugs are in place, art is hung and the outdoor furniture is out. Unpack and enjoy it.
-
Yes, often. We work alongside builders on custom homes and showhomes, and with developers and housing partners on multifamily projects. We stay available to the site team so questions get answered quickly.
-
Yes. We fit into the existing team and coordinate with your architect, builder and trades. ŌME provides interior design services. We are not registered with the AIBC to provide architectural services on projects that require a registered architect.
-
Construction-ready: our drawings and specifications are accurate and coordinated, so they can be priced and built with less guesswork on site. That saves time, and time is money that clients don't have to spend later on. Principal-led: you work directly with the principals, from the first meeting to the final walk-through. We stay through install and staging: we don't hand you drawings and leave; we can source, install and style everything, so the house is finished when you move in. Depth and range: custom homes, showhomes, multifamily, affordable housing, independent living and commercial spaces. That range shapes how we solve problems in every project.
-
The principals lead every project and stay involved through construction and install. We also train designers on our team, so they grow with real projects and contribute to our community.
-
We keep meetings flexible and intentional. Every meeting has a clear purpose, and we hold it wherever it helps most: online, on site, or at our suppliers. For clients who don't live nearby, that makes it easy to work together from anywhere and meet in person when it counts.
-
As early as you can, ideally before plans are final and before the builder prices the job. Early decisions on layout, cabinetry, lighting and materials are cheaper to get right on paper than to change on site. That said, we can join a project already underway, including near the end for furniture and staging.
-
It depends on the project. For a residential project, the interior design phase takes about two months, and we support the project all the way to occupancy. Multifamily projects can take about a year to develop, followed by a couple of years of support, depending on partner and consultant timelines.
-
Every project is different, so fees are set per project. They're normally based on the project's size and complexity: how big the program is and what the scope covers.

Our studio is in Kelowna. We work across the Okanagan and the BC Interior, including West Kelowna, Lake Country, Vernon, Predator Ridge and Kamloops. We also take on projects elsewhere in Western Canada and beyond, with meetings online and at suppliers as needed.
